We use filters everywhere, in our everyday lives, in Snapchats, Photography, even Website Advertisements. Filters are applied to so much of our life that I believe that many of us lose touch with the true applications and things behind the use of filters. Let me use an example of an old radio with filters applied to it. Filters are powerful because they have the ability to change our perceptions on a single frame of reference. In picture one, the filter applied washes out the photo creating a feeling of a memory or distance through history. The black and white photo fades connection to the photo. The third photo has a filter applied to it that enriches the photo. All of these photos create a different affect to the observer of the photo, and filters should be used to create the proper affect. As architects and designers and general, it should be important that we as designers apply the filters that are meant to get the proper effect from the designed project. Filters have value in this world, and they apply beauty and meaning to frames of reference that otherwise are ordinary.
