Architecture of Note: Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is an ancient complex built in Cambodia as a religious monument. It spans 402 acres and reaches a maximum peak height of over 700 ft. above sea level. The most iconic scenes of this grand temple are the various towers that stand tall over the stone walls and breeze-way corridors that outline the center courtyards. Angkor Wat has intense orientation that line the towers, almost disguising what the towers actually are structurally speaking.


This discussion of ornamentation has been long disgust in the timeline of architectural history and what the use or point of it has been. Stay tuned for an my article shaping my own opinion of Angkor Wat and its use in revealing the value and yet still use of ornamentation.
